"Small-scale seaside variety shows can sometimes be embarrassingly tacky. But not this one. Unforgettable is a scintillating little package, guaranteed to cheer up even the dampest holidaymaker or grumpiest local. The well-worn formula of music and comedy, with emphasis on tributes to big names like Sinatra and Nat King Cole, might sound unpromising. But this time it really works. This is largely due to the multi-talented Steve Laister who must be wondering whether his destiny is singer or comedian as he excels at both. A winner of the national Comedian of the Year Award, judged by Des O'Connor, Brian Conley and Joe Pasquale, Steve's style is so original, gleeful and deft that he can slip in volleys of really risky gags and have an audience in delighted uproar. Equally poised as a singer, he brings consummate control and musicality to old favourites as well as a climactic performance of Gethsemane. If there is any justice in showbiz, he will soon be ranked alongside some of his own vocal heroes. Laister generates the show's creative energy and somehow interweaves the comedyand music into a thoroughly entertaining whole. Imagine Roy Castle and Peter Sellers mixed up with Matt Munroe and Ronnie Barker and you are beginning to get a flavour of this immaculate performer".
