SHUT THAT BLOODY RACKET UP!! - Lyrical Eyes Challenge
The year - 1963
"Shut that bloody racket up"
With that my heart would sink
"Your Mother and me we're trying to talk
And can't bleedin' hear to think.
You call that rubbish music
Son you haven't got a clue
So shut that bloody racket up
Before I do for you."
Forty years later - 2003
"Shut that bloody racket up"
With that my heart would sink
I'd heard those words before somewhere
They made me stop and think
I'd called his music rubbish
And now suddenly felt sad
Against all the odds the little sod
Had turned me into me Dad

Cheers AK. Nick Drake eh? Now you're talking. He was around in the 70s when I was first getting into Folk Music. A huge influence on many writers that followed, but sadly an all-too-small catalogue through his early demise. He's had a resurgence in in recent years though and been discovered by intelligent listeners of a younger generation like yours.
Bullshit music always rears its ugly head from time to time. I tend to think that real music never really goes away, but just takes a rest occasionally to re-coup and that's when the bullshit seizes the opportunity to stake a claim. It doesn't last long though.
Thanks for the potted history mate and glad for you that you managed to turn your daddy's head.

Hit the nail on the head! i grew up with my dad pumping out everly brothers, bobby darin,E,L,O,kinks and the clash so a bit diverse! music suddenly kicked me in the face and it all made sense when i was about 15, i got into the rave scene and started mc'ing to drum and bass and fast beats! soon changed when words became my muse. my first love ripped my heart out and i started writing, its like it came from nowhere and i couldn't stop ! i would be up all night and then sleep only to wake every half hour to write.by 17 was heavy into booze and narcotics and the roller coaster ride started, long story....about 20 now and i began to educate my best friend and father about rap! he listened and listened and he got it. now 32 and my daddy is totally amazed by real rap and true story tellers and the feeling and heart that goes into it.I also came across folk music and i loved the deepness of it and tbh it was the amazing Nick drake that pushed me over. Nowadays is bullshit! music lost it's way...[more]

I just saw a couple of tracks from Blackmore's Night on you tube.
She sounded good, but looked even better

It was David Essex for me and my dad hated him. As far as my dad was concerned if it wasn't Buddy Holly or Elvis, it wasn't worth listening to!
Tara introduced me to Blackmore's Night and they are often played in my car.

Neither of those were in my collection but I found Under a Violet Moon on Spotify. Very nice. Couldn't find Soldier of Fortune though Matt.
Can't agree on the Streets of London track, not a patch on the original. Same for The Times They Are a-Changing. These are songs that need an edge and their treatments are far too sweet for me. Still in the main it's a new discovery for me so I thank you again Tara.

I posted Under a violet moon BC. It's my favourite but there's so many to choose from! I hope you enjoy indulging!

Very strange indeed, both these links were working earlier. Mine was Blackmore's Night playing Deep Purple's Soldier of fortune live and not quite sure about Tara's but it was really great!

A dear friend of mine recently left me an external hard drive containing a terabyte of hit records and other good music and I'm delighted to say that previously unknown to me there are 34 tracks by the very same Blackmore's Night. So I am now going to spend most of this weekend indulging. By the way I couldn't get either of your links to work Tara and MC. Never mind, if you tell me the titles I'm almost certain to posses them now.

I really like Blackmore's Night's cover of Deep Purple's Soldier of Fortune. She is hot!

Just checked Blackmore's Night out Tara. Quite folky and right up my street. I always loved Joan Baez's original but they've come up with a great cover. Ghost of a Rose is good too. Thanks for the tip.

My dad hated me playing Suzi Quatro, he bought me a great set of headphones because he hated my choice of music so much. I'm absolutely besotted now with a band called Blackmore's Night, you might like to look them up on YouTube perhaps you might like their cover of Diamonds and rust! Great poem x

It's the circle of life where older generations music gets better and younger more shite.

Me and my boys all share the same taste in music, so it's not a problem for us.
Well! I may have a decidedly broader taste.
