Strip lights also contain mercury. Energy savers being small twisted stip lights.

I have seen in Spain small bins just for batteries. Probably other countries have them but I haven't seen any here. Hope not too far off original post,i'm still buying theold lightbulbs.

I was going to mention about the fillings rsw, will Mercury still be in ones put in 20 years ago? and is it true it's more dangerous to remove them? Sorry NG I know i have gone off the subject a little but not worth putting a poll up for a question on my fillings with only one dentist on line!

I am posting this pre reading the link as I can't get it to work. I have never liked the idea of these bulbs. The amount of energy used to produce one of the new ones could have produced 1000 100w old bulbs. Also the mercury is bad news. We have taken that out of dentistry so this is where the they are putting it. Big Brother forcing us to do things again.

The binning issue is as relevant as it is to our long term friends, batteries. We shouldn't bin batteries because of their damage to the environment. Remember that when you throw your batteries away next.
As for mercury poisoning, cleaning them can be a pain, but they're tougher than normal lightbulbs, and as hands on as spilling milk on your carpet.
you'll get cancer off your mobile faster than poisoning from cumulative bulb smashing.
But halogen is an alternative.
