There was a brave squad of soldiers on a NATO mission
Patrolling on scorched ground in the Afgan hills
All is quiet but none can rest because danger always lurks
So many have proceeded but have never returned
Then a bang and a scream and then another bang
You hear the call of INCOMING but then no more sound
The sargeant shouts two mean down both have lost limbs
They must go forward to rescue them with fear in their hearts they must go
It's a minefield they now know but the the mines whereabouts they do not know
Be brave now boys they're our friends and we must take them home
On their bellies they now crawl to rescue the fallen
Every inch is danger now and each move is slow
With fingers feeling all around and knives prodding in the ground
In the burning heat of the sun their hearts are pounding
The brave rescuers of this platoon they need to keep on moving
A landmine found so mark it well then move on to the side
Just keep on moving but be careful you need to stay safe
It's no good rushing but keep on pushing to your comrades side
They lay there screaming now with pain their limbs blown away
Be brave now boys they're our friends and we must take them home
A few metres gained and closer now to their injured friends
They shout to them to help theirselves and use their morphine shringes
Their agony goes as the injured men slip into the arms of Morpheous
The crawling men are nearer now but at the pace of a snail
For rushing now will be no good just an act of folly
Endangering their own lives to get the fallen to a chopper
To secure the ground all around and to clear all the landmines
For the downdraught so easily could set of a mine
Nearly there boys just keep on going we'll soon have them out
Be brave now boys they're our friends we must take them home
They reach their men but alls not round we must check all around
Before we treat their wounds we must make them safe
For landmines could be anywhere and where we do not know
All's clear now so the medics bind their stumps
Now pick them up and carry them boys to the medivac
With great care they lift them up and onto the stretcher
Their mutilated bodies so still it's hard to know if they still live
Slowly now they carry them with just a few metres to go
And then a flash and a bang the brave boys dies saving their friends
