Yesterday, after all the hype in the newspaper and all other media, I insured by dog, a 2 year old Jack Russell.

It was only £5.45 per month, so I paid straightaway.

Lucky really....

Today my dog drove my van straight into a parked car.

The insurance company won't pay out !!

I see the idea has been scrapped. What about a dog licence that you must show to anyone who asks to see it. I remember we used to have one, as mentioned, cost about 37.5p I think. With inflation that would be a little more for a licence now but as my dog is black and white the licence would have to be a little cheaper for me.

Think I may have led you up the garden path when we were talking on the phone GV, that figure of £600 was a figure I plucked out of the air as being a ridiculous amount. I don’t think it’s anything like that but, staying serious, it does piss me off that they are talking about making me get insurance for my basically docile old dog, because they are concerned about the rise in the trend of certain types of people walking around with ‘status symbol’ dangerous dogs instead of (or as well as) knives. I’m quite happy to get insurance for my dog, but not if the reason is because of this rising trend when, as we all know, the people who they are aiming at are the very people who will stick one finger up and say “up yours with the insurance” anyway.

On a serious note, are they seriously talking about £600 a year for insurance? The RCPCA will be swamped with unwanted pets, so will never be enforced.

When I got married the year 19something or other, we had to buy a license which was 7s/6p old money. A dog license was the same price. This would be 35pence for the folks that have no idea of pre decimalization.

If you're now gonna say your dog hadn't even taken his test then it really DOES have to come down to irresponsible owners.
