What would you have done differently with your life given the benefit of hindsight?

 | | MamaP - 2010-06-22 23:20:15 | | | You could still go to uni LadyV as a mature student. Just apply yourself and don't give up. You could still work as well like most do in the States. Only you can do it for you!! | | Nod+ (0) | Report | Follow |

 | | LadyV - 2010-06-22 20:02:09 | | | It's a really tricky question this one, as some of you have pointed out, the choices we've made in the past have lead us to where we are now. I wouldn't change anything for the WORLD, but if I could add experiences, staying on at sixth form and then uni would be one. Continuing piano lessons after the first two! Continued with driving when it was all still fresh in my mind. The nice thing is that I realise that I could still do something about the latter two things! | | Nod+ (0) | Report | Follow |

 | | Bassist - 2010-06-20 09:12:21 | | | @mamaP, your comment 7/6 about joining one of the services. When I was 18 I applied to join the RAF, wanted to be an ATC (air traffic controller). Back then women could only join as a typist or similar. I stood my ground and they said, yes, join and likely to be able to transfer after a year or two. I did all the tests, even sat the test in the afternoon that is normally only men as it's all physics/engineering/electronics/maths type questions, which I flew through and got high marks. Then came the medical results. Failed. My eyesight wasn't good enough to join as I have a very lazy right eye. I went back to the surgeon who operated when I was 2 years old and around 4 or 5 had promised me that once I was grown up he could do it again. False promise to a small child. At 18 he informed me that an operation wouldn't work and I was stuck with the lazy eye. Hence I became an accountant and not an ATC. | | Nod+ (0) | Report | Follow |

 | | Deacongirl - 2010-06-07 20:07:39 | | | First of all I wish I had had piano lessons instead of singing lessons so I could write more songs. I also wish I had been a little more rambunctious when I had so many opportunities in the music industry back in 1979. Having said that, my life would have gone in a different direction and as I am now blissfully happy with Steve, there ya go, "whatever went before led me here". | | Nod+ (0) | Report | Follow |

 | | elsie - 2010-06-07 19:42:18 | | | I would have built a house on the corner plot garden we had with our first house in the 60s. Both our families had builders and they couldn't understand why we just wanted to keep it as a garden. After we sold it a house was built there.I have always wondered just how life would have been different with a huge finacial boost in the early days when we were struggling. It is something I have always regretted. | | Nod+ (0) | Report | Follow |

 | | FoxyCollins - 2010-06-07 18:08:15 | | | I would have started learning to play music earlier than I did,and I regret not having put as much practice in as I should.I may have had a career away from construction. | | Nod+ (0) | Report | Follow |

 | | Bluehound - 2010-06-07 16:23:48 | | | Uni is definitely my biggest regret, I really feel I missed out on the life experiences and learning it brings. But I make a policy not to regret things in my life, even the really bad stuff that's happened ( the reasons for not going to uni being one of them), as it all lead to me living here in lovely sunny Devon with the best husband in the world.
Having said that if he ever decides to run off with a cocktail waitress it's off to be a mature student bum with me ! | | Nod+ (0) | Report | Follow |

That said, I also realise that the industry is very crowded and that making a reasonable living can be very hard to achieve even when you are very good. Being rather cack at handling rejection meanss that a career in that line was always unlikely. Still, hindsight, I would have made better use of my teenage selfs lack of fear to have a go at it! Hats off to you all who are creative, have learned an instrument etc. (Like DJ crossfade .. I'm also a frustrated drummer!) | | Nod+ (0) | Report | Follow |

 | | MasterSignwriter - 2010-06-07 08:01:53 | | | Its never really too late to do anything if you have the gumption. I have to mirror slightly what col says in that if id hung onto properties i owned in my twenties, i wouldnt have to work now, maybe thats a bit more foresight rather than hindsight though. | | Nod+ (0) | Report | Follow |

 | | MamaP - 2010-06-07 07:44:19 | | | Was always a bit of a tomboy. I would like to have done all of the above and probably joined one of the armed services. Discipline is good combined with adventure. | | Nod+ (0) | Report | Follow |

 | | BigCol - 2010-06-06 23:34:15 | | | Instead of selling my house in Kent in 1993, I'd have have hung on to it. The hassle of maintaining and letting it out would have been worth being able to sell it at today's prices. | | Nod+ (0) | Report | Follow |

 | | Bassist - 2010-06-06 21:43:06 | | | This was partly inspired by the post about things to do before you die and partly by seeing my friends daugher on facebook just leaving Uni. It hit me that when we first made friends, the daughter was 15 and it seems like yesterday. I feel quite jealous of her Uni experience, as I struggle through an honours degree on a part time basis. I know that everything I have done has resulted in who I am now and where I am now, but can't help thinking that I've missed out on a few things. What are yours? | | Nod+ (0) | Report | Follow |
